Digital Equity.. how do we broaden participation in SITE for minorities

I am a minority citizen in education in the US, working with difficult populations.. Am I welcome to the major organizations? How many of us are involved? Can people see a picture of exclusion? Or is the exclusion self-selecting? (Read the article)

Well, it’s been a month….

.. since we were in San Antonio for the Conference. Things have been busy here in the east at Hartwick College, with the Spring semester rolling along. As far as faculty development have gone, it’s been mostly that “just in time” assistance that we all seem to get. Things are gearing up for final exams, and I’m personally working on a campus wide proposal to roll the departmental labs, which are not under any sort of direction or maintenance at the moment, into one functioning unit.  Long range planning is needed to keep the areas working, updated and faculty trained.

Which brings me to the issue of faculty involvement in their own technology training.  How can we get the faculty enthused about attending workshops, seminars, or other training sessions, rather than waiting until the last minute to try and figure something out?  What’s worked well for you?

Welcome! to the Leadership SIG blog!

At the SITE Conference, the Leadership SIG met to discuss new leadership for the committee, as Ian has decided to step down from the chair position (but not from providing input and advice!), and also how the SIG could become a more integral part of SITE in helping its membership with leadership issues. This blog is a start. Please join in the conversation, post questions, discuss challenges, work together for solutions… We need your ideas!
If you are a SITE member, and would like to join the Leadership SIG, log into mySITE and click on the “Join Committees” button in the Membership Section. We’d love to have new members!

Welcome to the Information Technology Education SIG

Dear Colleagues – welcome to the ITE SIG. The purpose of this SIG is to discuss important issues related to IT in education as well as ITEducation. Please feel free to post your comments here at any time.

Welcome to the Mathematics Ed SIG Blog

What a friendly conference.  Welcome to the Math Ed Blog from incoming Vice Chair Kathy Shafer.  I want to mention requests made in the SIG meeting.  Please join the Mathematics Ed SIG on MYSITE so we can communicate via email.  At the beginning of each month I will post a question that will hopefully generate discussion.  So April’s question is:  As you reflect back on the conference what were some highlights?

Invitation to Assessment/E-folio SIG Blog

Greetings all. My name’s Matt Miller, and I’m the incoming chair of the SITE e-folio/assessment SIG. I’m very excited that we have this new blog to begin to communicate with each other. Over the next week or so, I plan to start a few threads along assessment/efolio topics, and encourage you to visit our area of the blog and do the same. My hope is that this assessment/e-folio area of the SITE blog can become a questioning and sharing space ~ a place to share our experiences, tools, links, and questions with one another about assessment and the use of e-portfolios.

Again, welcome, and please visit our assessment/efolio area of the blog. I look forward to reading your posts! Please email me if you’ve got questions and do check back soon, as new threads will be started.

Cheers,

Matt

Assessment and E-folio SIG

Welcome to Assessment/E-Folio SIG

Greetings all. My name’s Matt Miller, and I’m the incoming chair of the SITE e-folio/assessment SIG. I’m very excited that we have this new blog to begin to communicate with each other. Over the next week or so, I plan to start a few threads along assessment/efolio topics, and encourage you to do the same. My hope is that this blog can become a questioning and sharing space ~ a place to share our experiences, tools, links, and questions with one another about assessment and the use of e-portfolios. I will also be working with the outgoing chair, Joanne Carney, to make this virtual learning environment as helpful and interactive as possible.

Do feel free to just jump-in with questions or sharing. My goal would be that this blog could become some fuel to guide our work as a SIG, a place for anyone to learn more about technology-driven assessment and e-folios, and a place to support our SIG’s progress toward next year’s annual meeting in Las Vegas.

Again, welcome, and I look forward to reading your posts! Please email me if you’ve got questions and do check back soon, as new threads will be started.

Cheers,

Matt
